Killian's Case Study

So for everyone who follows sports, we all know great inspirations in the game such as: Lebron James, Serena Williams, and Shaquem Griffin. Although there is one thing that these athletes have in common, they all support one man, Colin Kaepernick.

Not many athletes have a value proposition, but Kaepernick, for one, does. In his words "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder". This has sparked a lot of controversy in society and the NFL in the past years.

Some think that this means Kaepernick hates the police and hates veterans when I can assure you that it's not the case. In fact, many officers and veteran support Kaepernick. One of those veterans who support him is Nate Boyer, a former player for the Seattle Seahawks. Most people don't know that Kaepernick actually started his protest sitting, Nate Boyer was the one who suggested he take a knee so that he can peacefully protest while showing respect to veterans. Look up any video with Nate Boyer on the subject and he makes that clear.

Most people forget why Kaepernick began his protest and they take it out of proportion. Jaime Foxx discusses this issue on tv, a link can be found below.

One big issue that is also discussed is the fact that Kaepernick still doesn't have a job in the NFL. There is no reason why he shouldn't be playing.

It is obvious that teams don't sign Kap because of his protest, but should they really let their pride get in the way of the success of the team? One team in particular who had this issue is the Jaxonville Jaguars. They had recently extended their quarterback Blake Bortles with a $54 million deal; he was benched five weeks ago and currently they are 3-7. Keep in mind the Jags were a potential Super Bowl team last year and now they won't even make the playoffs this year. So what do you do? In this situation you save your season by spending close to nothing on the veteran quarterback that's in free agency, Colin Kaepernick. Spoiler alert! They didn't do it and that's why they're 3-7. Dan patrick analyzed some statistics supporting why Kap should be in the league, if interested here's the link

In the end I think that it's criminal that Kap isn't in the league. Too many team owners have too much pride and would rather risk getting fired, than sign the most peaceful protester ever. This leads me to some questions you should think about.

1. As an owner for the Jaxonville Jaguars, do you swallow your pride, sign Kaepernick, and have a potential playoff season?

2. Do you think that Kaepernick shouldn't be allowed to play in the league for exercising his rights and kneeling for what he believes in?

"Sacrificing Everything" by Nike

We all wear shoes right? Now look down. What are the chances that the shoes you're wearing right now, at this moment, are Nike? We all know Nike for several things: shoes, sports, swoosh, "Just Do It", etc. Would you ever think to throw fire into that list? Go on to Twitter and in the search engine type in "nike ad" and you'll get some.        Recently Nike released an ad with a particular controversial icon by the name of Colin Kaepernick. The ad is widely liked, although the main message of the ad is what conjures up a lot of "fire". At the end of the Nike ad Kaepernick says, "Believe in everything even if it means sacrificing everything".        So many issues have been "sparked" by this ad, one in particular is the burning on Nike shoes. Because Kaepernick is such a controversial icon, people have declared to stop purchasing Nike products, and to be more foolish, burn them. You can find many examples of people d
